Welcome to Carrollton, KY: Exploring Local History and Culture

Discover the Rich History of Carrollton
Carrollton, Kentucky may be a small town, but it is rich in history and culture. Founded in 1794, this charming riverside community boasts a strong sense of community, picturesque scenery, and numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation. As a local, I am excited to share with you some of the must-see attractions and activities for any first-time visitor to Carrollton. Take a Walk Through Downtown
One of my favorite things to do in Carrollton is to take a stroll through downtown. The quaint streets are lined with unique shops, locally-owned restaurants, and historic buildings that have been lovingly preserved. Don't forget to stop by the courthouse square, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You'll also find a variety of local events and festivals happening throughout the year in this area. Learn about the Civil War at the Butler-Turpin House
Located in downtown Carrollton, the Butler-Turpin House is a must-visit for history buffs. This beautifully restored home served as a headquarters for both the Confederate and Union armies during the Civil War. Tour guides dressed in period clothing will take you through the house and share fascinating stories about Carrollton's role in the war. It's a great way to dive deep into the town's history and gain a better understanding of the local culture. Taste the Flavors of Carrollton
No visit to Carrollton would be complete without sampling some of the local food. One of the most popular dishes in the area is the "Carrollton Hot Brown," a unique twist on the Kentucky classic. It features layers of turkey, bacon, tomato, and a special cheese sauce, all served on toasted bread. You can also find delicious southern comfort food, BBQ, and locally sourced ingredients at the various restaurants in town. Get Outdoors and Explore
If you're an outdoor enthusiast, Carrollton has plenty to offer. Take a stroll along the Ohio River and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. You can also go fishing, boating, or kayaking in this scenic waterway. The town also has several parks and trails for hiking and biking. My personal favorite is General Butler State Resort Park, where you can camp, play golf, and even go horseback riding. Experience Southern Hospitality
As a long-time resident of Carrollton, I can say without a doubt that one of the best things about this town is the hospitality of its people. Everywhere you go, you'll be greeted with a warm smile and a friendly hello. Don't be surprised if someone strikes up a conversation with you or invites you to join in on a local event. We love sharing our town and its rich history with visitors, and we hope you'll come back and visit us again soon.
