West Martello Tower
Originally constructed of tabby, a mixture of mortar and seashells, West Martello Tower was designed to serve as a lookout point for potential attacks on the island. However, it never saw any major military action and was eventually decommissioned. The fort then served as a quarantine station during the early 1900s and was later used as a radio station during World War II.
Today, visitors can explore the grounds of West Martello Tower and learn about its fascinating history through informative exhibits and guided tours. The tower also boasts beautiful gardens and is a popular spot for weddings and special events.
