Carnton Plantation
During the Battle of Franklin, Carnton Plantation became a place of refuge and care for wounded soldiers, with the McGavock family and their enslaved workers providing crucial support. The estate's outbuildings, including a smokehouse, kitchen, and dairy, were also utilized as temporary hospitals. Today, visitors can tour the home and see the bloodstains on the floors from the wounded soldiers who were treated there. The McGavock Confederate Cemetery, located on the property, is also a poignant reminder of the lives lost during the Battle of Franklin.
