Battle of Ramsour's Mill
The Loyalists had set up a camp near Ramsour's Mill and were surprised by the attack of the Patriots. The Patriots, with their superior tactics and strategy, successfully defeated the Loyalists. The Battle of Ramsour's Mill was one of the largest and bloodiest battles during the Revolutionary War in North Carolina, with over 350 casualties. This victory gave a boost of morale and confidence to the Patriots, and it weakened the Loyalists' hold in the area.
Today, visitors can explore the site of the Battle of Ramsour's Mill, which has been preserved as a historical park. The park features a memorial commemorating the soldiers who fought and lost their lives in the battle. Tourists can also visit the nearby Ramsour's Mill Historic District, which includes the grist mill where the battle took place.
