The Courier Cafe

The Courier Cafe

History: The Courier Cafe, located in downtown Mahomet, has been a beloved staple in the community since it opened its doors in 1984. The restaurant is housed in the historic Cushman Building, which was first built in 1902 and used as a bakery. The owner, Allen Strong, renovated the building and opened The Courier Cafe, which quickly became a local favorite.

Ambiance: As soon as you step into The Courier Cafe, you are transported back in time. The cozy, vintage atmosphere is adorned with antique knick-knacks and old-fashioned decor. The walls are lined with historic photos of Mahomet and the surrounding areas. The friendly staff adds to the welcoming and nostalgic vibe of the restaurant.

Menu: The Courier Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a focus on traditional American and comfort food. Their breakfast menu features classics like pancakes, omelettes, and biscuits and gravy, as well as unique dishes like the "Tomato Butter" sandwich made with homemade tomato butter spread. For lunch and dinner, they offer a variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and entrees like chicken fried steak and pork tenderloin. They also have a delicious selection of homemade pies and desserts.

Positive Review: The Courier Cafe is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Mahomet. I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The food is always fresh, homemade, and delicious. One of my favorite dishes is their famous corned beef hash breakfast skillet. It's a hearty and flavorful meal that never fails to satisfy. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable.

The staff at The Courier Cafe are always friendly and welcoming. They make you feel like you're a part of the family when you dine there. The historic and vintage atmosphere adds to the overall experience and makes it a truly unique dining location. I also love that they use local and fresh ingredients in their dishes, supporting the community.

Overall, I highly recommend The Courier Cafe to anyone visiting Mahomet or even just passing through. It's a true hidden gem with a rich history and delicious food. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu items, as well as indulge in their famous homemade pies. The Courier Cafe truly embodies the warmth and charm of small-town America.
