Gardner, only about an hour northwest of Boston, is a quaint town with a rich and fascinating history.  Known as the Chair City and Furniture Capital of New England, it claimed 20 furniture factories in 1910.  The largest chair in the world, referred to as the Gardner Bicentennial Chair, is located in Gardner, along with several other giant chairs.

Gardner still boasts many furniture stores, as well as other shops in its downtown area.  A local farmer’s market finishes out a satisfying shopping experience.

For the outdoorsy type, Gardner is home to many city parks with hiking and biking trails galore, as well as Dunn State Park and Lake Wampanoag Wildlife Sanctuary, which are sure to please.  Monument Park is home to the town’s bandstand where live music and movies in the park make for an entertaining evening.

The Gardner Veterans Arena houses an ice skating rink where locals love to skate and house hockey games for sports lovers.
