Groton Massachusetts is the largest town in Middlesex county by area and lies only about 40 miles from Boston.  If you are looking for that quaint small-town feel, look no further!

The local historical society and museum is a great place to start in Groton.  From there, Gibbet Hill Castle or Bancroft’s Castle, built by General William Bancroft in 1906, will be an interesting choice.  The castle burned down on July 4, 1932, during a firework show, and the remains are now open to the public.

For hiking and outdoors options, Groton Place, Groton Town Forest, Rocky Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, and the J. Harry Rich State Forest all contain numerous trails and scenic views.  Nearby, the Nashoba Paddler company offers kayaking and paddling.

Groton is also home to many working farms.  Gibbet Hill Barn & Trails is a farm turned restaurant with great food and hiking.  The owners turned the barn on the farm into their restaurant which creates a rustic atmosphere for diners.  Luina Greine Farm and the Autumn Hills Orchard are two more working farms worth checking out.

From its history to its outdoor attractions, Groton claims interest for all members of the family!
