Hope Arkansas, a small town in Hempstead County, has two claims to fame: it grows the world's largest watermelons it is the birthplace of former U.S. President Bill Clinton. The President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home is now a National Historic Site. Located on South Hervey Street, the two-story white frame house was where Clinton lived from his birth until age four in 1946. Railways are also a big part of Hope's history. The town of Hope was developed because of all the railways being laid down. Its first passenger train came into town in 1872. The Missouri-Pacific Railroad depot was restored and now serves as the Hope Visitor Center & Museum. It showcases railroad memorabilia and local history exhibits.
