The Tonto Natural Bridge State Park presents both advanced hiking trails and an easier trail leading to a waterfall.  The beautiful natural bridge can be seen from a trail below, as well as another trail leading to the top of the bridge.  Other waterfalls in Payson include Water Wheel Falls, Ellison Creek Waterfall, and a natural cold spring at Staircase Waterfall.

Mogollon Rim and Woods Canyon Lake also offer scenic views, hiking, fishing, and an overlook at the ranger station; kayaking, canoeing and gear rental are available with Rim Country Recreation.  Nearby at the base of Mogollon Rim, the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery educates visitors on the process of hatching fish.

History lovers can take a hike and dig for fossils at the Paleo Site or the Shoo-Fly Indian Archeological Site where you can also learn about the local tribes.  The Rim Country Museum is a reconstructed cabin of Zane Grey’s, an American frontier fiction author, and the museum also offers local area history.
