Phenix City lies on the Chattahoochee River which also forms the border between Alabama and Georgia; the city of Columbus Georgia borders the river on the other side.

Phenix City, formerly Girard, lays its claim to fame as the site of the last battle of the Civil War.  Due to this rich history, there are several locations to visit on the National Register of Historic Places including the Brooks-Hughes House, Floyd-Newsome House, Morgan-Curtis House, and the Shapre-Monte House.

Outdoor venues create opportunities for fun as well.  Idle Hour Park and Sports Complex on Moon Lake offers children’s play areas, a trail around the lake, fishing, picnic areas, and sporting venues. Southside Park presents a water feature and trails for hiking.
