Hope Lodge and Mather Mill

Hope Lodge is a beautifully preserved 18th century mansion, built by the influential Quaker family, the Whartons. It served as a summer retreat and a horse-breeding farm. It also played a significant role in the Revolutionary War, serving as a temporary headquarters for George Washington.

Adjacent to Hope Lodge is the historic Mather Mill, which was built in the early 18th century. It is one of the few remaining examples of a working colonial grist mill. Visitors can witness the grinding of wheat and corn in the traditional methods, and learn about the role of mills in colonial America's economy.
