The McBarge

Maple Ridge Travel Guide The McBarge, also known as the "Friendship 500," is a unique and historical attraction located in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. This floating McDonald's restaurant was originally built in 1986 for the World Expo in Vancouver.

The McBarge was designed with futuristic and environmentally-friendly features, such as solar panels and a waste treatment system. After the Expo, the restaurant was moved to a nearby harbor and opened to the public as a floating McDonald's. However, due to operating difficulties and maintenance costs, it was eventually closed in 1991.

Today, the McBarge remains a popular tourist spot, attracting visitors from around the world. It serves as a reminder of the unique and innovative designs from the World Expo and the environmental efforts of the 80s. Although it is no longer open for business, visitors can still take a boat tour to see the McBarge and admire its one-of-a-kind architecture.
