Carolands Chateau

Carolands Chateau, located in Montara, CA, is a magnificent French-style mansion that was built in 1914 by industrialist Harriet Pullman Carolan. This grand estate, set on 554 acres of land, was envisioned to rival the grandeur of European chateaus and to serve as the Carolan family's private residence.

However, the mansion's construction was halted due to financial issues and the family only lived in it for a short period of time. In 1950, the property was sold and was used as a boarding school and later, a retreat center. Today, the chateau serves as a popular destination for tourists and visitors who are drawn to its stunning architecture and rich history.

Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the mansion and explore its opulent rooms, including the grand ballroom, the magnificent dining room, and the original servants' quarters. The 75-foot-long Grand Hall, with its hand-carved marble fireplace and intricately painted ceiling, is a must-see for any architecture enthusiast.
