As a local, I have always been fascinated by the stories and sights that make up this small but significant town. Traveling Back in Time
One of the best ways to experience the history of Newton is by taking a walking tour through the town's many historic sites. Start your journey at the Newton Historical Museum, where you can learn about the town's founding and development through exhibits and artifacts. From there, make your way to the A.H. Blank Ditch Bridge, a stunning structure that was built in the 1870s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Preserving the Past
As you walk through the downtown area, you'll notice many of the buildings have plaques with their year of construction on them. This is because the city takes great pride in preserving its historic architecture. The Maytag Building, a former manufacturing plant now turned into a mixed-use development, is a must-visit for its unique blend of old and new. And don't forget to stop by the Jasper County Courthouse, a beautiful building that has been standing since 1894. Monumental Figures
