As a local resident of New Braunfels, I have always been captivated by the charm and character of our charming downtown area. Founded by German settlers in 1845, our downtown area is rich in history and culture. Walking through the streets, you can see the influence of the German heritage in the architecture and traditions that are still preserved today. From strolling along the Main Plaza to visiting the historic buildings, there is so much to discover and appreciate in our downtown. The Main Plaza
One of the main attractions in downtown New Braunfels is the Main Plaza. This open space is the heart of our town and is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. With lush green lawns, beautiful fountains, and the iconic bandstand, the Main Plaza is the perfect place to relax and take in the sights and sounds of our town. On Saturdays, you can also visit the Farmers Market, where you can find fresh produce and artisanal goods from local vendors. The Historic Buildings
Downtown New Braunfels is home to many historic buildings that have been beautifully preserved and restored to their original glory. Some must-see buildings include the Faust Hotel, built in 1929, and the Gruene Mansion Inn, built in 1872. These historic buildings offer a glimpse into the past and the unique story of our town. One of my personal favorites is Naegeli Cinnamon Rolls, a local bakery that has been around for over 30 years and is known for their delectable cinnamon rolls. After a day of exploring, you'll definitely want to refuel at one of the many dining options in our downtown area. From locally owned cafes to fine dining restaurants, there is no shortage of delicious food to try. Some popular spots include The Gruene Door, known for their farm-to-table menu, and The Black’s BBQ, a local favorite for mouth-watering Texas-style barbecue. And of course, you can't leave New Braunfels without trying some of our famous Tex-Mex cuisine. The Festivals and Events
Throughout the year, downtown New Braunfels comes alive with festivals and events that celebrate our town's unique culture. Some notable events include Wassailfest in December, where you can sip on different variations of hot spiced cider while strolling through the Main Plaza. The Wurstfest, also known as the "10-day salute to sausage," is a popular German festival held in November. And during the summer, you can catch free concerts on the Main Plaza every Friday night. No matter when you visit, there is always something happening in downtown New Braunfels! In conclusion, a visit to downtown New Braunfels is a must for anyone visiting our charming town.
