The first people to inhabit this land were the Mdewakanton Dakota, who lived along the banks of the Minnesota River. Today, their legacy can still be seen in the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community's annual Wacipi (Powwow)

The Scott County Historical Society offers a walking tour of downtown Shakopee, where you can see buildings dating back to the 1800s. The Landing, an outdoor living history museum, showcases life in the Minnesota River Valley during the 19th century. And don't miss out on the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, where you can step back in time to the 16th century and experience life in a reimagined medieval village.

Outdoor Adventures at the State Parks
Shakopee is home to two state parks – Fort Snelling and Minnesota Valley – where you can connect with nature and enjoy outdoor activities.
