Founded in 1825, Jacksonville is home to many beautifully preserved historic sites that provide a glimpse into the past. The town was once a hub for political and social change, with influential figures like Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas making their mark here. One of the best ways to experience the historic charm of Jacksonville is by taking a leisurely stroll down Main Street. The quaint, tree-lined streets and beautifully restored buildings will transport you back in time. Start your tour at the Governor Duncan Mansion, a Greek Revival style home that belonged to the first Governor of Illinois.
