Welcome to Burlington, WA: A Local's Guide to Exploring the Scenic Chuckanut Drive

Burlington, WA may be a small town, but it has no shortage of natural beauty and outdoor activities. As a local, one of my favorite places to take visitors is Chuckanut Drive. This 21-mile scenic highway offers breathtaking views of the San Juan Islands, the Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mountains. Whether you're a nature lover, a foodie, or a history buff, Chuckanut Drive has something for everyone.

Outdoor Adventures
If you enjoy hiking, Chuckanut Drive has several trails that range from easy to moderate difficulty. The iconic Pacific Northwest landscape of lush forests, rocky beaches, and stunning vistas make for the perfect setting to explore on foot. If you're feeling more adventurous, you can even climb on the sandstone cliffs at Larrabee State Park. And for those who prefer biking, the 6-mile Interurban Trail is a great option for a scenic ride.

Foodie Paradise
What's a trip to Washington without indulging in some delicious seafood? Chuckanut Drive is home to some of the best oysters on the West Coast. Taylor Shellfish Farms has a tasting room where you can sample different varieties of fresh oysters and other shellfish. Don't worry if you're not a fan of seafood, there are also plenty of farm-to-table restaurants along the drive with stunning views to satisfy any palate.

Historic Landmarks
If you're a history buff, make sure to stop by the Old World Deli, a charming century-old building that used to be a trading post. You can also visit the historic Fairhaven Village, a former mill town turned quaint shopping district. And no trip to Chuckanut Drive is complete without seeing the historic Chuckanut Drive Train Tunnel, which was built in 1890 and is now part of a popular walking and biking trail.

As a local, I can confidently say that the views from Chuckanut Drive are picture-perfect. The drive offers numerous viewpoints and overlooks to capture stunning photos of the surrounding scenery.
