Exploring our Historic Downtown
As a local, one of my favorite places to take visitors is our charming historic downtown. Known as the "Original Washington" because it was the first town in the country to be named after George Washington, our downtown boasts stunning 19th century architecture, quaint shops, and delicious restaurants. A must-see attraction is the Turnage Theater, a beautifully restored Art Deco theater that hosts live performances, films, and art exhibits.

Discovering the Waterfront
Another reason visitors love Washington is our beautiful waterfront. Located on the scenic Pamlico River, our town offers a variety of water activities, such as kayaking, fishing, and boat tours. The iconic City Pier is a popular spot to take a stroll and watch the sunset. On weekends, you can even catch live music performances at the waterfront amphitheater.

Indulging in Local Cuisine
No trip to Washington is complete without trying our delicious seafood. As a coastal town, we are known for our fresh catches and mouth-watering seafood dishes. A local favorite is the Shrimpburger, a unique sandwich made with shrimp, coleslaw, and tartar sauce. For a taste of our town's history, be sure to visit one of our historic restaurants, such as Spoon River or the Hackney Brothers Country Store.

Exploring our Natural Gems
For nature enthusiasts, Washington offers plenty of opportunities to explore our beautiful surroundings. Goose Creek State Park is the perfect place for hiking, birdwatching, and camping. Just a short drive from town, you can also visit the Outer Banks for a day trip and experience the beauty of our barrier islands. And don't forget to visit our local farmers' market, where you can find fresh produce and handmade goods.

Last but not least, what makes Washington truly special is its friendly and welcoming community. As a small town, we take pride in our southern hospitality and love showing it to our visitors. From our local festivals, such as the Summer Festival and Smoke on the Water BBQ and Music Festival, to our charming bed and breakfasts, you'll feel right at home in Washington.
