Dubois, Wyoming is a small town located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Its picturesque landscape and charming atmosphere make it a popular tourist destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. As a local, I have been fortunate enough to witness the wonders of nature in Dubois first hand and I am excited to share some of my favorite spots with you. Whether you are seeking adventure or simply a peaceful escape, Dubois has something for everyone.
Hikes to Hot Springs
One of the best ways to experience the natural beauty of Dubois is by taking a hike to one of its many hot springs. The hike itself is an adventure, with breathtaking views of the mountains and abundant wildlife. Once you reach the hot springs, you can soak in the warm water and enjoy the stunning scenery around you. My personal favorite is the Boiling River Hot Springs, which offers both a relaxing soak and a great spot for a picnic. Wildlife Viewing
Dubois is home to an array of wildlife, making it a perfect destination for animal lovers. You can spot majestic bighorn sheep, graceful elk, and even elusive wolves in the surrounding areas. The National Bighorn Sheep Center in town offers educational exhibits and guided tours to help you spot these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. Make sure to bring your camera and binoculars for the best views. Fishing in the Wind River
The Wind River flows right through Dubois, providing excellent fishing opportunities for both beginners and experienced anglers. The crystal-clear waters are filled with a variety of fish, including trout and mountain whitefish. You can fish from the bank or take a guided float trip for a unique experience. The scenery along the river is simply breathtaking and you might even see a bald eagle soaring above. Horseback Riding in the Mountains
Dubois is known as the "Gateway to the Winds" because of its close proximity to the Wind River mountain range. One of the best ways to fully appreciate the beauty of these mountains is through a horseback ride. Several local outfitters offer guided tours for all ages and skill levels. You will ride through lush forests, cross streams, and gain a new perspective of the stunning landscape. Sunsets at the Big Horn Sheep Viewing Site
As the day comes to an end, head to the Big Horn Sheep Viewing Site just outside of town to witness a breathtaking sunset over the red cliffs. This spot is also a popular gathering place for the resident bighorn sheep, so you might be lucky enough to see them up close. Make sure to bring a picnic dinner and some blankets to fully enjoy this special experience. Dubois is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature and the great outdoors. Its stunning scenery, diverse wildlife, and plethora of activities make it the perfect place to experience the beauty of nature. While these are just a few of my favorite spots, I encourage you to explore and discover your own little piece of paradise in this charming town. Trust me, once you visit Dubois, you'll never want to leave.
