Lomita, California is located in Los Angeles County and approximately eight miles west of Long Beach. The word "Lomita" is Spanish for little knoll. One of the most iconic landmarks is the Lomita Railroad Museum devoted to the steam engine period of Railroading. The museum is modeled after the Boston and Maine's Greenwood Station in Wakefield, Massachusetts. On display is a 1902 Baldwin Locomotive, 1910 Union Pacific caboose and a Southern Pacific tender. A small public park is featured on the property and a kid favorite play area is accommodating a Union Pacific Boxcar and Union Oil tank car. A short drive away in Long Beach is the famous RMS Queen Mary where the ship is permanently moored as a hotel, museum, event facility and tourist attraction.
