Yarmouth was settled in the early 17th century and has played a significant role in Canadian history ever since. Visit the Pelton-Fuller House Museum to learn about the Acadian culture and the area's maritime history. The fire department museum is also a must-see for anyone interested in the town's firefighting history.
Relax on the Beach
One of the main attractions of Yarmouth is its beautiful beaches. Our coastline boasts some of the most stunning beaches in Nova Scotia, and they are perfect for relaxing and soaking up some sun. Sandford Beach Provincial Park is the most popular beach in Yarmouth, with its white sand and crystal clear water. It's a great spot for a family picnic or a romantic walk along the shore.
Indulge in Fresh Seafood
Being a coastal town, Yarmouth is known for its fresh seafood. Our local restaurants offer a variety of delicious seafood dishes, from lobster and scallops to chowders and fish and chips. The Cape Forchu Lightstation and Leif Ericson Trail offer stunning views of the ocean and surrounding landscapes. You can also stop at the Red Cap Restaurant for some delicious seafood chowder and take in the picturesque views.
Experience Local Festivals
Yarmouth is home to many festivals and events throughout the year, and I highly suggest checking them out if you're visiting during one. The annual Seafest Festival celebrates the town's maritime heritage with a parade, live music, and lots of seafood. The Strawberry Festival in July is another popular event that features local food, live music, and a parade.
Shop for Local Souvenirs
Lastly, no trip to Yarmouth is complete without picking up some souvenirs to bring back home. The downtown area has many unique and locally-owned shops that offer everything from handmade crafts and souvenirs to traditional Maritime gifts. Be sure to visit the Yarmouth Farmers' Market on Saturdays for some delicious local produce and handmade goods.
